The Graduation June 1, 2003
By
I love the little town of Bangor Michigan. I really do. These are my kind of people.
I actually had a niece graduate from High School. Amanda is the first niece of mine that actually made it all the way though. So, being in the family spirit we drove the three hours to witness such a grand moment.
I have written about Bangor before, and how my wonderful niece won 2'nd runner up in the Miss Bangor Beauty Pageant. You can read about that here. She has since been promoted to 1st runner up because the chick that won 1st runner up screwed up somehow and had her crown taken away. I've no idea what she did but I bet it was fun.
Now granted, I haven't been to too many graduation ceremonies, so I'm really not sure how all this should go, but this was too cool. A band played, a choir sung and the kids graduating blew bubbles in the air.
Some dude in a suite got and explained that it was pronounce "Bangor" (as in Al Gore) and not "Banger" (as in what you want to do to the cutest chick in the bar).
Then the students get up to speak. A great quote that I came away from the graduation is "Do what you want and say what you will. For those who mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind."
Excellent! And true.
But the best part was when the class president got up to give a speech. She said. "It's been said that we are the class that doesn't care. We're proud of that." What a great quote! These really are my kind of people.
Rock on Class of 2003!
P.S. Amanda, Congratulations. You have all my love, your Uncle Ralph. |
